Amazing Bourbon replacement
5This was an excellent substitute for bourbon and I will definitely be ordering more of this. Not too strong of a smell but a very smooth and oaky aftertaste.

Good, but requires some adjustment
4(Full disclosure: I'm a full time cocktail expert/spirits marketer in the liquor industry and a health nut in my spare time) If you're unfamiliar with this line of products, please note that these really aren't meant for sipping. Alone, they will taste watery. It's flavor profile replicates a younger bourbon, not a lot of oak, and not a lot of vanilla sweetness. It's malt forward. Reminds me more of a Jim Beam than a 7-year aged bourbon. That being said, the American Malt can make great mocktails, with some adjustments. It lacks the 'in your face' of bourbon, so you can't expect it to be a bourbon-forward cocktail. It's more of a wingman. Whatever you mix it with is probably going to take center stage. Pro-tips: use sugars with some deep flavors and body (demerara syrup, grenadine, maple, orgeat, agave). If you're comfortable with using Angostura or real vermouth, this will make incredible Manhattans or Old Fashioned cocktails. I haven't tried the Lyre's faux-vermouth, so I can't say how they would turn out purely non-alcoholic. My best success with the American Malt was a Jack Rose (ish) mocktail with 0.75 oz grenadine, 2 oz American Malt, and 1 oz Lemon Juice. I had difficulty using American Malt against citrus, and simple syrup really didn't cut it. If you're looking to pair this stuff with a low-calorie sweetener, I'd recommend not doing that. I've done several experiments with homemade xylitol syrup, and have determined that it makes alcoholic cocktails bad, and compounds the difficulties with non-alcoholic cocktails. Though I guess it imparts a bit of a burning sensation? But not pleasant. Again, I'd say avoid it. In summary, I'd recommend this stuff if you're willing to play around with recipes a bit, be cautious of pairing it with citrus, and know not to expect a fine sipping bourbon.

Fantastic!
5I have been sober for 15 years, but have always missed the taste of a good whiskey. This has that! Smoky, with some good hints of vanilla. Very smooth. Glad I took a chance on it. Mixes well and is just as good neat.

Tastes good, too expensive.
3The flavor and sensation of drinking this beverage is great. Unlike an alcoholic beverage it is harder to sip and more agreeable to taking larger gulps. It is simply too expensive but I appreciate the attempt to replicate this malt.

Excellent Whiskey Alternative
5This is an excellent alternative to whiskey! Has all the taste and flavor without the unhealthy side effects of alcohol. I'm a guy who really likes to enjoy a cocktail from time to time, but I dislike the effects of alcohol in general. I love that it has the 'bite' of traditional whiskey. This was above my expectation and will definitely order again.

They nailed the flavor! I
5They nailed the flavor! I can drink bourbon/whiskey really quickly and that would get me in trouble. I was looking for an alternative and this is it. The flavor is spot on, the only thing missing is the burn you get from the real thing. It tastes the same but drinks like tea. I discovered that if you put just a splash of the real stuff in once you have made your drink, you still get that burn but not all the alcohol that comes with a full glass. It has been a perfect fit for me.
